Rosedale is a small city in Bolivar County in northwest Mississippi. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,873 residents. It's home to the Port of Rosedale, a facility that offers access to both the lower Mississippi River and the Arkansas River navigation systems. The Port of Rosedale is located about 100 miles from Memphis, Tennessee, and is within a 500-mile radius of several other major markets, including Houston, Atlanta and Birmingham. The city of Rosedale has inspired works by many prominent blues artists, including Robert Johnson (1911-1938). Johnson was one of the most influential blues artists of all time, yet he enjoyed limited commercial success during his lifetime. His Traveling Riverside Blues, was not even released until 23 years after his death. In this song, Johnson traced the railway route which ran south from Friars Point to Rosedale. The Mississippi Blues Commission placed a historic marker at Rosedales former Yazoo and Mississippi Valley Railroad depot site, designating it as a site on the Mississippi Blues Trail. The marker commemorates the sites in the original lyrics of Traveling Riverside Blues, and emphasizes a common theme of blues songs: riding on the railroad, which was seen as a metaphor for travel and escape. Rosedale is also home to an annual Blues Fest, and the Great River Road State Park. Things to do at the park include swimming, fishing, boating, hiking, camping, picnicking, disc golf and more.

Rosedale Weather & Climate

Northwestern Mississippi , like most of the state, has a humid, subtropical climate. The weather is mostly determined by three factors; latitude, the Gulf of Mexico to the south and the landmass to the north. Temperatures in the state are relatively mild due to the proximity of the Gulf and the latitude. A humid, subtropical climate means warmer temps and regular precipitation all year, rather than having a distinct rainy season. However, Mississippi's weather at times seems to follow a "feast or famine" situation, rather than the average - either a lot of precipitation or drought conditions. Hurricanes are possible, but mostly affects the southern coast. Mississippi is also in the path of two tornado alleys that run southwest to northeast across the state.
