Greenville
is a city located in west-central Mississippi right along the Mississippi River. As of the 2010 census, the population was 34,400 residents. Greenville is a historic city that's also rich in culture and the arts. It sits on the eastern bank of Lake Ferguson, which is an oxbow lake left from an old channel of the Mississippi River. Two floating casinos are located on the lake near downtown Greenville, and a third casino is just west of the city near the Greenville Bridge. The city of Greenville is also known for its historic Nelson Street, a strip of Blues clubs that began in the 1940s. It's been compared to Beale Street in Memphis. The second historic marker designated by the Mississippi Blues Commission on the Mississippi Blues Trail is in front of the Southern Whispers Restaurant on Nelson Street in Greenville. This was a stop on the chitlin circuit in the early days of the blues, and commemorates the importance of this site in the history of the development of the Blues in Mississippi. Other attractions include the Winterville Mounds Historic Site, the Delta Children's Museum and the Greenville Museum of History. For outdoor recreation, the Greenville area offers golf, fishing, boating, camping and hiking.

Greenville Weather & Climate
West-central Mississippi has a subtropical climate. There is a change of seasons with hot, humid summers, and mild, sunny winters. Spring and autumn are short, transitional months. This region experiences rain showers and humidity year-round, although it's mostly felt during summer when heat combined humidity makes it uncomfortable. The weather can be unpredictable in west-central Mississippi, and cold spells have been experienced in winter, but snowfall is rare. The best time to visit the area is between February and April, when the heat and humidity are not at peak levels. June is the start of hurricane season, but mostly affects areas closer to the coast.
