Pascagoula
is located in the southeast corner of Mississippi in the Gulf Coast region. It's the county seat of Jackson County and part of the Gulfport-Biloxi-Pascagoula metropolitan statistical area. The population of Pascagoula was 22, 523 as of 2014. Prior to World War II, Pascagoula was still a sleepy little fishing village of about 5,000 residents. The war brought the need for more ships and the population exploded as Pascagoula became one of the major shipbuilding industrial cities of Mississippi. The state's largest employer, Ingalls Shipbuilding, is still located in Pascagoula. The Port of Pascagoula is a full-service deep water port with two harbors and modern facilities capable of handling cargo. The Port's two harbors are a combination of public and private terminals moving in excess of 35 million tons of cargo through the channels annually. Pascagoula is the largest seaport in Mississippi and ranks in the top 20 in the nation in foreign cargo volume. Things to do in the area are naturally centered around the coast, such as swimming, fishing, sailing, windsurfing, crabbing, shelling, sunning and jet skiing. However, there are also over 20 golf courses in the area, along with historic homes and architecture, museums, magnificent gardens and some of the best restaurants featuring Cajun seafood you'll ever taste.

The south-central coast of Mississippi has a tropical climate that is defined by the Gulf of Mexico. Winters are short and mild and summers are long and humid. Winter temperatures average in the upper 50s. Summer temperatures range from the lower 80s in May to the mid 90s by August. The humidity makes it seem much hotter at times. Rain can fall anytime of the year, and thunderstorms are possible in the summertime. Average annual rainfall is 62 inches. Snowfall is rare. During the spring and fall months, temperatures are usually very pleasant with lots of sunshine. Mississippi lies in the path of hurricanes moving northward from the Gulf of Mexico during the late summer and fall.
