Ocean-Springs
is lies along the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico in the southeast corner of Mississippi. As of the 2010 census, the population was 17,225. Ocean Springs is only about two miles east of Biloxi. The city of Ocean Springs has long been known as an arts community. The historic tree-lined streets of downtown are lined with many art galleries and artist studios and eclectic shops. Over 100 restaurants are here to entice you, including a number of ethnic ones. Ocean Springs is also host to several festivals, including the Peter Anderson Festival and an Herb Festival. From colonial times, the abundance of seafood has been celebrated in the town; today, harvested shrimp, crab, oysters and a variety of other fish can still be purchased here. Unfortunately, Ocean Springs was severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 when it took a direct hit from the huge storm. Many buildings along the shoreline were destroyed, including the yacht club and the historic wooden Fort Maurepas. Also, the Biloxi Bay Bridge, which connects Ocean Springs to Biloxi, was destroyed. Today, the city has rebuilt, and Ocean Springs new commercial districts for shopping, along with many parks and green space for outdoor activities.

The south-central coast of Mississippi has a tropical climate that is defined by the Gulf of Mexico. Winters are short and mild and summers are long and humid. Winter temperatures average in the upper 50s. Summer temperatures range from the lower 80s in May to the mid 90s by August. The humidity makes it seem much hotter at times. Rain can fall anytime of the year, and thunderstorms are possible in the summertime. Average annual rainfall is 62 inches. Snowfall is rare. During the spring and fall months, temperatures are usually very pleasant with lots of sunshine. Mississippi lies in the path of hurricanes moving northward from the Gulf of Mexico during the late summer and fall.
