Barge-Lake
is the name of a lake/recreation area and primitive campground in west-central Mississippi. It's located near the town of Rolling Fork on Highway 61 (the Blues Highway. Barge Lake has RV (gravel) sites, primitive tent sites, hiking and biking trails and horseback riding trails. For shopping and other essentials, Barge Lake is just a short drive to Rolling Fork. This historic little town of about 2,500 residents offers a relaxed, hometown atmosphere. People area friendly and roots run deep in this town in Mississippi's Deep Delta region. The iconic Teddy Bear was inspired by a political cartoon depicting President Theodore Roosevelts refusal to shoot a black bear while on a hunt just a few miles from Rolling Fork in 1902. The town of Rolling Fork celebrates this legacy with the "Great Delta Bear Affair", festival held annually on the fourth Saturday in October. Each year, the festival features artist Dayton Scoggins who carves a bear from a huge cypress log that is donated to Rolling Fork. The bears can be seen throughout town. A Visitors Center and Museum is also located in the town of Rolling Fork, just off Highway 61, open Thursday - Saturday. The Barge Lake Recreation and Primitive Campground area is also near the Delta National Forest, which offers 60,000 acres for fishing, camping, hiking, wildlife viewing and horseback riding.

Barge Lake Weather & Climate
West-central Mississippi has a subtropical climate that is warm and wet year round. There is a mild change of seasons with hot, humid summers, short, sunny winters and transitional autumn and springs. This region experiences rain showers and humidity year-round, although it's mostly felt during summer when heat combined humidity makes it uncomfortable. The weather can be unpredictable in west-central Mississippi, and cold spells have been experienced in winter, but snowfall is rare. The best time to visit the area is between February and April, when the heat and humidity are not at peak levels. June is the start of hurricane season, but mostly affects areas closer to the coast. Tornadoes are another possibility.
