Waynesboro
is located in southeast Mississippi, and is the county seat of Wayne County. The population is approximately 5,000 residents. There are a lot of places of historic interest in the area, including the Downtown Waynesboro Historic District. Wayne County itself is older than the state of Mississippi, tracing its founding to 1809. The county borders the state of Alabama to the east and lies within the heart of Mississippi's Pine Belt Region. Several larger cities are located nearby including Jackson, Hattiesburg and the Biloxi-Gulfport region of Mississippi, and Mobile and Montgomery, Alabama. Recreational activities abound in Waynesboro and the surrounding area. Maynor Creek Water Park is a 450-acre site that offers world-class fishing, boating, swimming and camping. The Chickasawhay River and Buckatunna Creek offer excellent opportunities for fishing, boating, tubing down the river, wildlife viewing, and photography. Wayne County is also home to a large portion of the DeSoto National Forest, an important site for protection of longleaf pine savannas, pine flatwoods and longleaf pine forests. The city of Waynesboro also offers several city parks with playgrounds, ball fields and picnicking opportunities.

Southeastern Mississippi , just east of the Chickasawhay River, the weather consists of hot, humid summers and mild winters. The official climate classification is humid, subtropical with the possibility of rain year-round. There is no specific dry season in southern Mississippi. Snowfall is a rare occurrence. Summertime heat and humidity can be severe at times. The comfort index, which is based on humidity during the hot months, is 26 out of 100, with a higher number being more comfortable. Mississippi is in the path of hurricanes moving northward from the Gulf of Mexico during the late summer and fall. Generally, plenty of warning time is given for these types of storms, which carry the threat of high winds and torrential rainfall.
