Ridgeland
is a city located in central Mississippi's Madison County. As of the 2010 census, the population was 24,047 residents. Ridgeland is part of the Jackson metropolitan statistical area. It lies just north of Jackson (which is the state's capital) so it offers convenient access to the city, while offering a safe, close-knit, family-oriented community. Ridgeland offers several parks and recreational activities, and it's well-known in the South for its fine shopping and dining opportunities. Ridgeland is also home to some of the top-rated schools in the state, as well as a community college and private schools. Ridgeland is proud of its heritage, and has a high regard for art and culture. The Natchez Trace Parkway, a 444-mile national park, runs through Ridgeland. The Park is easily accessible and Ridgeland's newly expanded bike trail travels 10 miles along the Parkway from the Ross Barnett Reservoir Overlook to the Renaissance shopping center. The 33,000-acre Ross Barnett Reservoir offers sailing, boating, and fishing. Freedom Ridge Park, Friendship Park and Wolcott Park all have playgrounds, walking/running trails and sports fields. The city is also home to the 17-court Ridgeland Tennis Center, which is also open to the public.

Central Mississippi has a humid, subtropical climate with warm, humid summers and short winters. In Mississippi, summer temperatures vary little from one part of the state to another. During winter, however, the southern coast is much warmer than northern regions, due to the influence of the Gulf of Mexico. Humidity in summer is a problem statewide, with the comfort index being 26 out of 100, where the higher the number, the more comfortable. The north-central region of the state averages 53 inches of precipitation per year. Some snow usually falls in the northern and central sections. Mississippi lies in the path of hurricanes, although the southern coast is much more affected by these types of storms. Two tornado alleys cross the state from the southwest to northeast.
