Yazoo-City
is located in west-central Mississippi about 40 miles northwest of the city of Jackson. As of the 2010 census, the population was 11,403. Yazoo City is at the junctions of U.S. Routes 49, 49E and 49W, and MS Highways 3, 16, and 149, on the banks of the Yazoo River. It's also near the Panther Swamp National Wildlife Refuge. Two bridges cross the river at Yazoo City. The town is known as the "Gateway to the Delta", due to its location at the transition between the western Mississippi Delta region and the loess bluffs that characterize most of eastern Mississippi. Yazoo County was the winner of the Delta's Best Tourism Award in 2014 from the Mississippi Delta Strategic Compact, and a 3-time winner in 2012, 2013, and 2014 of the Convention & Visitor's Bureau of the Year award from the Mississippi Tourism Association. Yazoo City has award-winning barbecue restaurants, unique shops, art galleries, museums, history and family-friendly events and festivals. Some events include the Jerry Clower Festival, the Bentonia Blues Festival, and the Fire & Feast MBN Sanctioned BBQ Competition. The Yazoo County Fair in October is the second oldest county fair in the state. The Holiday Open House in November is when local merchants open their doors for a preview of their holiday goods. And the Yazoo City Christmas Parade kicks off the winter holidays on the first Tuesday in December with a celebration on the streets of the town. So, whether your interest is in history, the blues, local art and cuisine, or outdoor recreation, Yazoo City has something for everyone.

West-central Mississippi has a subtropical climate. There is a change of seasons with hot, humid summers, and mild, sunny winters. Spring and autumn are short, transitional months. This region experiences rain showers and humidity year-round, although it's mostly felt during summer when heat combined humidity makes it uncomfortable. The weather can be unpredictable in west-central Mississippi, and cold spells have been experienced in winter, but snowfall is rare. The best time to visit the area is between February and April, when the heat and humidity are not at peak levels. June is the start of hurricane season, but mostly affects areas closer to the coast.
