Pontotoc
is a city located in north-central Mississippi just west of Tupelo. As of the 2010 census, the population was 5,625. Places to visit include the Town Square Museum, which is housed in the old U.S. post office near the county courthouse. A mural in the lobby of the Town Square Museum titled The Wedding of Ortez and SaOwana - Christmas 1540 depicts the first recorded Christian marriage in North America. The historic town square is also the site of the annual Bodock Festival, held the last weekend in September. For outdoor recreation, Howard Stafford Park includes an 80-acre lake that's stocked with bass, bream and catfish for fishing. Other things to do at the park include camping and picnicking, and baseball fields and a volleyball court is available for visitors. Howard Stafford Park is also the site of the annual 4th of July celebration and fireworks display. The Pontotoc Country Club, located 10 miles east of town, has an 18-hole golf course open to the public, and a swimming pool and tennis courts for members. Nearby, in the hills of eastern Pontotoc County, is Longbow Trails, a multi-use area for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, fishing and camping. Nearby historical attractions include the Tupelo National Battlefield and the Brices Cross Road National Battlefield Site.

Severe thunderstorms with heavy rain, high winds, hail and tornadoes can occur in this area during the spring. The winter months are normally mild with an average of 39 days of freezing or below-freezing temperatures per year. Snow is rare, but ice and sleet storms are possible.
