Poplarville is a small city located in Pearl River County in southwestern Mississippi. The population is approximately 2,600 residents. Poplarville is the county seat of Pearl River County. The town is known for its annual Blueberry Jubilee. In 2005, Hurricane Katrina inflicted heavy damage to the town. The storms most powerful, unofficially recorded gust of wind was reported at Pearl River Community College, at 135 mph. The Blueberry Jubilee is held in downtown Poplarville. It attracts approximately 10,000 visitors every year. The festival includes an arts and crafts fair, storytelling, live entertainment, all kinds of foods made with blueberries, games, the crowing of the Blueberry Jubilee queen and lots of family fun for all. Other attractions in Poplarville include a Trash to Treasure downtown flea market and garage sale and an annual Easter Egg Hunt. Poplarville is also home to Swallowfork Lake, a small, peaceful lake surrounded by native Mississippi pine forest. Activities include fishing, boating, picnicking, camping, hiking and wildlife viewing. It's the perfect place for a quick getaway, a family outing, reunion, small group meeting, or honeymoon. Cabins are available and come equipped with kitchen appliances, cookware, towels and linens.

Poplarville Weather & Climate

The southern coast of Mississippi has a tropical climate that is defined by the Gulf of Mexico. Winters are short and mild and summers are long and humid. Winter temperatures average in the upper 50s. Summer temperatures range from the lower 80s in May to the mid 90s by August. The humidity makes it seem much hotter at times. Rain can fall anytime of the year, and thunderstorms are possible in the summertime. Average annual rainfall is 62 inches. Snowfall is rare. During the spring and fall months, temperatures are usually very pleasant with lots of sunshine. Mississippi lies in the path of hurricanes moving northward from the Gulf of Mexico during the late summer and fall.
