Carrollton
is a tiny town located in north-central Mississippi's Carroll County. As of the 2010 census, the population was 190 permanent residents. Carrollton is part of the Greenwood micropolitan area. The town sits on the south side of Big Sand Creek, which is a tributary of the Yazoo River, and borders the town of North Carrollton. Highways 17 and 35 pass through the center of Carrollton and lead to North Carrollton. The charming town of Carrollton has one of the largest restored historic districts on the National Register of Historic Places in the United States. Approximately eighteen historic sites are located around Court Square, and selected walking tours are available on request. One of the best preserved sites in town is the Merrill Museum, which houses the John Sidney McCain collection, a compilation of personal and military memorabilia belonging to the great grandfather and grandfather of Senator John S. McCain. Carrollton is also host to an annual Pilgrimage and Pioneer Day festival, generally held in October. The nearby city of Greenwood offers more historic sites, along with fine dining, museums, shopping and more. For outdoor recreation, Carroll County offers golf, fishing, boating, camping and hiking.

North-central Mississippi ,near the Arkansas border, has a humid, subtropical climate with normal rainfall around 51 inches per year. Thunderstorms with heavy rain, high winds, hail and tornadoes are all possible in the area during the spring and summer. The winter months are normally mild with an average of 39 days of freezing or below-freezing temperatures per year. Snow is rare, but ice and sleet storms are possible. Summer months are very warm and humid, with maximum temperatures exceeding 95 degrees about 32 days per year. High to very high relative average humidity sometimes exceeds the 90 percent level, making it very uncomfortable.
