Tishomingo is the name of a village and a state park located in Tishomingo County in the northeast corner of Mississippi. The population of the town is approximately 320. Tishomingo is in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains within a triangle created by the historic Natchez Trace Parkway, Bay Springs Lake and Pickwick Lake. The town of Tishomingo has shady streets, small shops, parks and churches; a peaceful place from which to explore the state park or launch a scenic ride along the 444-mile Natchez Trace Parkway. Tishomingo State Park is located 2 miles southeast of the village at Milepost 304 on the Parkway. The park has a rich history and is unique in that it has glacier deposited rock formations and plants that grow no place else in the state. Inside the park, visitors can swim or fish Haynes Lake, canoe on Bear Creek, hike miles of trails and go rock climbing. There's a large lodge and cabins, and a 62-site campground along the shores of Haynes Lake. The park also offers a disc golf course and fields for baseball, softball, and volleyball. The Tennessee Tombigbee Waterway and Bay Springs Lock and Dam are located just west of Tishomingo. The Waterway is known far and wide for its bass fishing. The inland waterway links the Tennessee River and the Gulf of Mexico, and features a Divide Cut that is deeper than the Panama Canal. A campground is located on the west side of Bay Springs Lake. Special events in Tishomingo include a Town Wide Yard Sale Day on the 1st Saturday of May and October, a 4th of July Street Dance and an annual Christmas Parade.

Tishomingo Weather & Climate

The northeastern corner of Mississippi has a humid subtropical climate. There is a definite change of seasons, although "milder" than states further north. Temperatures remain pleasant year-round, for the most part, except in summer when high humidity combined with heat makes it uncomfortable. Average annual precipitation is 50 inches and distributed fairly evenly throughout the year. March is the wettest month and October is the driest. Some snow usually falls in the northern and central sections of the state, and is less than three inches each year. Mississippi lies in the path of tornadoes, with two tornado alleys crossing the state, from the southwest to northeast. Hurricanes and tropical storms mostly affect weather along the southern coast.
