Osyka
is a small town located in Pike County in south-central Mississippi. It's part of the city of McComb and included in the McComb micropolitan statistical area. As of the 2000 census, the population of Osyka was 481 people. If you're visiting Osyka, you'll want to check out the McComb Main Street downtown area, where you'll find all the shops, attractions, and business. Another big attraction in the area is the McComb Railroad Museum, proclaimed the best rail museum south of Chicago, and Railroad Town. The museum contains more than 1,500 catalogued artifacts. You can also climb aboard the restored steam locomotive. It's open Monday through Saturday, noon - 4:00 p.m., and is located in downtown McComb at the Railroad Depot at 108 N Railroad Blvd. You'll enter the museum through the original Illinois Central passenger terminal now leased to Amtrak. Among the exhibits is a G-Scale model train, complete with an engine whistle and authentic railroad sounds. You'll also be able to listen to the oral history from railroad men who lived and worked on the railroad and admire the photographs from the famous railroad photographer, C. W. Witbeck, and a display of President Teddy Roosevelt's trip to McComb in 1911.

Southern Mississippi has a semi-tropical climate. This part of the state that's in close proximity to the Gulf of Mexico tends to be humid with lots of rainfall, and very little difference between summer and winter conditions. Average rainfall per year is 56 to 60 inches, with well over 180 days of sunshine annually. Snowfall is rare in southern Mississippi. Tropical storms and hurricanes are possible in late summer and fall. However, plenty of warning time is generally given for these types of storms. The comfort index, which is based on humidity during the hot months, is 26 out of 100, with a higher number being more comfortable. The US average on the comfort index is 44.
